HMC Asia History

Harvard Model Congress Asia held its inaugural conference in September 2005 in Bangkok, Thailand. Originally created by Harvard students Loui Itoh and Laura Morris, HMC Asia is now in its sixth year, and it continues in a tradition of American government simulations facilitated by Harvard students that started over twenty-five years ago.

Each year the conference brings together a diverse and talented group of students and staff members from across the world. While HMC Asia has more than doubled in size since its inception, it still maintains the very low staff-to-delegate ratio that is the hallmark of the HMC Asia experience. Every delegate works closely with Harvard students throughout the conference.

Now students may participate in one of many unique committees carefully designed to challenge students to learn about cooperation, public speaking, critical thinking, and to improve their English writing, speaking, and debate skills as they work to solve some of the largest problems facing the world today.
